Ian Mackay, an Invacare TDX SP2 Power Wheelchair user, plans to set a Guinness World Record for the most miles traveled in a wheelchair within a 24-hour period. Ian is the Executive Director of Ian's Ride, a non-profit dedicated to "promoting outdoor accessibility, advancing technology, and encouraging support services for those with mobility impairments." Ian plans to travel at least 200 miles in a 24-hour period for this Guinness World Record attempt. Ian's world record attempt begins on June 21st at 8 p.m. Pacific time in Sauvie Island, Oregon.
This will be a very exciting event for Invacare as Ian states “I get to show off what your current model mid-wheel drive chair is capable of without any modifications. The suspension, lights package and tracking will make for a great 24-hour experience. This is very exciting!”
Ian has considered the difficulties he will face during this 24-hour ride, but he is prepared and determined to complete the journey no matter what weather he endures. "I'm a big fan of long rides in my wheelchair and pushing my limits. This solstice, I'll face my toughest test yet: 200 miles in 24 hours! This is something I'm doing to advocate for more safe, accessible, and connected pathways for people of all abilities, as well as to encourage everyone to get outside." Ian said of the event.
Ian, we wish you the best of luck with your attempt at a Guinness World Record; Invacare is rooting for you!
